Not a great idea to use your email as username. A gift to hackers and spammers.

Re: Universal 5432 Throttle Set Up

Sorry, I haven't been on this site in quite a while, just got notified of the reply.
No, I haven't found a solution. I glued a small piece of stiff foam between the arm and the stop, but it's barely effective. I keep looking for a place to attach a spring but I just don't see any. My next idea was to try putting the arms of a clothespin spring where the foam is now, hoping that the arms of the spring will be small enough to allow shutting off the engine. And I haven't thought of a way to attach it so that I could remove it if the idea didn't work. I do a lot of staring at it. :-)

Re: Universal 5432 Throttle Set Up

I have the springs on the back side of the linkage, where it attaches to the throttle linkage. The spring is fairly stiff, so you really have to pull back to get it to shut off. What i don't like is there is no set idle stop! So i have to keep looking at the tack to get it around 900-1,000 RPM and then I don't move it again until I'm in the slip. If I have to stop it for an emergency then I will need to reset the idle. I'm going on a sailing charter out of Tampa next week so I can't get you a picture of my setup until I get back. Also, found a reference to this Kubota P/N 15738-57706 which is a throttle shut off assembly. My concern is that even with this shut off device I still will not have a positive stop for idle. I will try to do more research on it when I get back. I'm retired now so I hope to get this resolved if possible! Can't believe they built the boat with this drawback! It's been a great engine even though I have no idea the engine hours on it since there is no hour meter??

Re: Universal 5432 Throttle Set Up

Thanks for the info. I'll try to check it out. (I'm also semi-retired but the less time I spend online, the better!) A picture would be helpful, I can't really figure where I'd hook up a spring to the linkage on my boat. I'll send you a pic (via email) and maybe you can see if my setup compares to yours.

Re: Universal 5432 Throttle Set Up

eherlihy

I know this is an old post, but I found it and purchased the stop lever arm unit you recommended. It fits my 5432 in the same spot where there was a plate but it will not engage with anything inside to shut the engine off. I have to use a mirror to see the throttle mechanism and it looks like a lever moves to the rear when i pull the throttle all the way back to kill the engine. Unfortunately, I cant figure out how to connect the new stop lever arm to the sliding arm inside the engine. You can call me at 510 812-2761 if you want to discuss this issue. Thanks George
