Hello Terrapins and Welcome to SailNet!! I think you'll find our community to be a warm and welcoming one. Now, before I proceed with my welcome message I have one tiny little thing I need to get off my chest...

(Actually not really. Not even a little ;) )

Allow me to explain. You see, I've been looking at your boat for several months and for most of that time she was absolutely top of our list of candidates for a boat to buy. My wife and I had plane tickets booked, a hotel reserved, and 6 days before our flight, YOU bought the boat!!

I forgive you though, but only because it appears you have really good taste in boats. :) Personally, I think you got the best darn deal on the west coast. She looks (on paper at least) to be a turn-key circumnavigator with a great equipment list and layout. How cool to have the kids each have their own bedrooms!

I'm sure you've already found all this good info, but just in case you haven't, consider it my gift to you.

GREAT information here:

A website dedicated to this make and model:
Kashaya : Dufour 12000 CT

And finally, the blog of the previous owners who circumnavigated with her. (spoiler alert: there are very few blog entries about the boat breaking or fixing stuff, mainly it looks like they were having fun and sailing well)
Fafner's trip around the world

So, again, really this time, welcome to SailNet. I like your boat. ;)

PS I have one question. How good is the visibility from the lower steering station? How far ahead would a log in the water have to be for you to see it? The previous owners never ever used it, it seems.

PPS You're getting rid of the dragon? Man, I thought that graphic looks cool. To each his own. I think you've got a dragon on your spinnaker as well.

You hates us now, then I won't let you know what we were able to pick her up for :)

She's an awesome boat perfect for our intentions. She'll be making her maiden voyage soon.

We'll get back to you on the lower visibility. And yes the dragon is going! We've got our own logo we'll be using.

Evil! Evil you are! :)

Actually I know what you picked her up for. That was my first question after my broker told me it had been sold. I had him look her up on the dealer's side of yachtworld to confirm she had been sold as I had hoped that maybe she was just taken off the market after 2 years.

I asked my broker not to tell me yet what she sold for and I said, "I bet I could have, with some good bargaining got her for (a number)"

He replied, "She sold for (the exact number I stated), so you were right."

Nice timing on your offer. I might have bought her 7 days later for the same price. ;) Unless, of course, you can't see from the steering station below. That's a huge priority for us.

Good luck with the maiden voyage! I did a little passage planning for her myself as I was planning on bringing her up to the Seattle area. I would caution you about the fuel tanks. She doesn't have inspection ports (which means they've never been cleaned) and she may have a lot of growth in the tanks. Once you get outside the golden gate the stuff on the walls of the tanks can get stirred up and clog the filters very quickly.

I had planned to install one of these Dual fuel filters with gauge and practice bleeding the engine before taking her outside the gate. I would recommend doing this as cheap insurance. It'll be money well spent.

Re: 45' Dufour 12000ct
Hi... welcome! We have the Perkins 4-236 engine. Our engine is connected to a hurth ZF 63 2.0:1 marine transmission. We just replaced it last year in NEw Zealand on our way around the world.... if you do decide Tom change the transmission, make sure you do the motor mounts at the same time! Cheers!
