Re: Are my batteries shot?

Yes, the Victron stuff is very good, but still with all gear the owner needs to adjust Absorb Hold Time, not just accept defaults, verify endAmps is actually being reached at Absorb before sources are dropping to Float

The Victron can be set to a 12 hour absorption hold time but will go to float when end amps hits 2A no matter how you set it if I recall correctly.

So **if** you need to go longer, just put a small constant load on, it has no way of knowing what portion of current is actually being accepted.

Or just restart to get another cycle with the minimum AHT.

But really I doubt such kludges are often needed in practice.

Re: Are my batteries shot?

It's pretty unlikely one has enough solar real estate, not to mention a long enough and bright enough day, to over charge a house bank. That's likely why a timer works okay on these, as they never really time out. The charge just peters out at dusk. However, I still find it highly suspect that the bank is getting anywhere near truly full.

Re: Are my batteries shot?

Well whether or not that is the case can be easily verified objectively, no need for guesswork

And if indeed in a given context the solar never stands a chance of getting the bank to Full, then just set Float to the Absorb spec.

Just remember to set it back if / when that context changes.

I agree. With a shunt. Is there a solar controller that uses one?

Re: Are my batteries shot?

Yes, but with any charge source, using any ammeter at the bank, is what I meant.
