How much is a battery cycle ?

My Trojan manual states and I quote , a deep cycle flooded lead acid Trojan batt . needs to be cycled 50-100 times in order to reach full capacity of SOC . One thing the manual does not say is what is a cycle . I was discussing this with a friend and he said "if your batt. is at 100% SOC and you start your engine that would be a cycle , if you charge back up to 100% SOC" . Well that sounded good to me , what do you think ?

Re: How much is a battery cycle ?

I think a cycle would be draining the battery 40-50% then recharging. I don't think an engine start will put a big drain on a battery's capacity.

Re: How much is a battery cycle ?

Certainly lower than 20-30% DoD.

None of this is exact.

The break-in period is done when capacity gains appear to plateau.

Ideally keep C-rates gentle both charging and discharging during that time.

You then do a precise CC load test capacity benchmark for 100% SoH, and it's all downhill from there, hopefully taking many years to EoL at ~75%

Re: How much is a battery cycle ?

Cranking an engine does not draw even a decent fraction of 1%.

Best to use a SoC meter to let you know.
