rudder , shaft and engine out, then what?

Hi all,

I am having the rudder dropped, and packing hose replaced as well, while some work is being done on the rudder by a reputable yard. The owner has suggested perhaps replacing the shaft, I am having the engine mounts replaced as well, because there 's one that has nearly disintegrated. Do you have any suggestions for other work that should be done while this is all happening ? Interprotect the glass below/.... ?
The boat is a 1979 Ontario 28, Yanmar single.
Thanks for the help,

Seems most often it's the fueltank behind the motor that needs cleaned/repaired/replaced. Start there and move onto water-lift muffler, exhaust hoses or anything else that mightbe in the engine room.

If the shaft is going to be replaced, replace the cutlass bearing, transmission coupling, and add a shaft seal.
