fiberglass thickness

I''m installing a new traveller in the cockpit of my seafarer 30. I was wondering if the 1/4" thick fiberglass with a metal backing plate would be sufficient. Or would I have to epoxy in a length of wood to help reinforce it?
Thanks

A flat metal backing plate distributes the load across a larger surface area, providing excellent fastener pull-out resistance; but does little to increase the structural “beam-strength”.
You’ll want a “C-Shaped” channel (or at least an “L” angle) to reinforce the FRG & Traveler’s deflection resistance. Think “beam”, not just backing-plate.
