In search of window shades

Does anybody know a manufacture of the accordion type horizontal fabric window shades, I see them on newer boats like Catalina's & Hunter's but I can't find who makes them.

My wife is all about these shades, so yes, this is a mayday

Re: In search of window shades

Nope. Maybe check Catalina Online.

I've had them on my two Catalina's and they look okay, but not the most ergonomic solution. Putting them over the windows is easy enough; undo the velcro and pull them down, and attach the bottoms of them to the Velcro at the bottom of the window.

Putting them back up means sort of fiddling with them to fold them up accordion style and then wrap the velcro around them.

Yeah, they work, but not the greatest.

Curtains would be easier, but depending on how much slant there is on the sides of your cabin top, they may let too much light underneath. Of course, velcro tabs could be employed when and if that's an issue.

Suggest you actually try the accordion style shades before you buy.

Re: In search of window shades

My 1985 Cal 33 came with them. My wife repaired ours when we bought the boat a little over 5 years ago, but at some point they will need replacing. I have considered using pleated shades made for the home. Not sure about how well the hardware will stand up to humid sea air, but worth a try. I've bought mini blinds for my home from these guys and pleased with the service, price and quality. The cordless type would seem to work best.

We went with the OceanAir pleated port shades and would recommend them.

Re: In search of window shades

Thanks guys

I wish it was a easy as contacting Catalina Direct, but alas, it's a boat and there ain't sh*t that easy about a boat. I have a huge salon 18'x 11' with four windows that measure 78"x 30". They need to be custom made but I couldn't even come up with the right term for them. Now I know I'm looking for pleated shades and not accordion or folding shades.

So again thx to all

Well Home Depot and Lowes can order custom made shades, biggest issue is going to be finding a mounting solution.

Re: In search of window shades

Thanks JimsCal, I just ordered samples, not a bad price, Our local Oceanaire dealer made it sound like I was spending a fortune.

Or maybe she was going to bill me a fortune
