New to SailNet, just purchased Tanzer 22 and questions

Purchased a Tanzer 22 last Fall and will be sailing on Lake Champlain.

Not sure where to go to find all the answers to the questions I have, but this forum looks to be a good place to start.

My biggest issues right now are:

1) mooring size?
- I'm leaning towards a 300# pyramid mooring from Defender in CT and attaching 1/2' chain with swivels and good size mooring ball. Our camp is relatively sheltered (larger boats come in close to anchor overnight). My concern is just the occasional strong winds. Everywhere on the web says 300# is more than enough, but I'd hate to have it fail.

2) minor crazing below water line
- do I grind out and fill as i've seen on web, or can i just paint on anti-fouling. boat looks to never had any anti-fouling paint as the underwater area is white, and shiny

Hope someone can point me in the right direction,

Hi Jeff. Welcome to SailNet. I can't answer your questions but I am going to move your thread to the Gear and Maintenance forum.

Congratulations on your new boat! Check out all the books by Don Casey. Helped me tremendously when I bought my first one.

Good luck with the boat!

A 300lb mooring should be fine. Most guides would steer you towards a 250lb. The complete setup will include upper and lower chain, swivel, mooring ball, pendant, pickup, shackles, etc. The link below has some good info on moorings.
