O'Day 25 Rudder Needed

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced used O'Day 25 rudder for sale in the New England area?

I'm posting here for friends in need. Hoping someone may know of a derelict being parted out.

They lost the rudder off their nice little O'Day 25. It was either stolen or worked it's way loose and floated away while the boat was on the mooring last fall.

Building a new one is an option and the dimensions are available online. The pintles/grudgeons are also available online. So it's not the end of the world for them.

However, it's still going to cost a few hundred $$ in boat bucks to build the new one and they could use a break.

Thanks!

It couldn't hurt to even open your search up to other similarly sized boats with rudders of the same style. For example I know the T22 rudder fits on my Tanzer 7.5. There may be good options out there from other models.

DR Marine Product List New online.
That'd be 10 boat bucks though.

This is why generally speaking if a (sail)boat is missing one of these items:
Keel/centerboard/daggerboard
Mast
Boom
Sails
Rudder

The boat is no longer considered a sailboat, but rather an expensive hole in which to sink money.

Love some sale/craigslist ads.. Boat is complete except mast and sails (and standing rigging apparently)...

By the way, huge fear of mine is losing the rudder overboard (I generally install my rudder after the boat is in its slip - long story).
No way mine is floating, my guess is theirs did not either. Sometimes the first place to look is underwater at the dock/mooring. Trust me its cheaper to hire a diver. While I suppose a rudder COULD be stolen, it's not real useful except on the proper model boat.

Pintles and gudgeons wear out, sometimes all it takes is a worn bushing and it wobbles enough to bounce free from a nearby waking incident.

The search is wide open to anything that would work, even if it's not ODay original equipment.

The boat is not for sail Shnool, it's a family owned boat looking for a rudder at a bargain price.

Funny story.

I've been trying to sell my Catalina 25 for two years. No takers.

In about 2 weeks, I'm going to sell the new sails* and engine**.

If I can't move it with the new sails and engine, I'll never move it without them.

At that point, a C25 rudder will be available.

Maybe it will pay my dumpster fee.

How well do chainsaws work on GRP?

Have you tried advertising the boat, sails and rudder on the Catalina 25 forum, in their "Swap Meet"?

Some or all of it will probably sell there, if it's reasonably priced.

Re: O'Day 25 Rudder Needed

Hello there,

I updated my O'Day 25 rudder to the Rudder Craft kick-up type rudder, so I have a decent O'Day rudder I could sell. It is in good shape with just some gel coat missing from the bottom. Let me know if you still need one and I can take pictures to send you.

It's the tool of choice.
