I see wire on ebay from a couple of companies (Hy-Weld in Georgia and Cumberland in TN). Their prices are a good deal cheaper, but I wonder if the stainless is made in China, which I don't trust too much.

Yes! I'm really interested in this!
But, when I found out that I'd have to change plates and fittings on the mast and elsewhere, I got a bit less enthusiastic about all the work that would seemingly entail.
But, anyway, tell us about the virtues of synthetic standing rigging.
