Re: New fuel spouts SUCK!!!!

The Expedition Portal thread is, sadly, the usual web collection of contradictory and unofficial opinions. What some guy or gal at Spectre told you on the phone might have beeen accurate, but I've learned many companies just blow off questions because "boopsie" is on the phone and wants to get rid of the call and move on. Sorry, I want to see it in writing so they can be held liable for it.

Too many questions remain with no answer from any party, like whether water bottles are lined with FDA approved coatings, or are FDA approved materials. And whether gasoline cans are made with anti-static ingredients. Oh yes, static does cause explosions, some makers claim to use an anti-static plastic in their gasoline cans, and gasoline only. That's one reason that gas stations sometimes post a sign requiring "approved" gas cans that have a fire marshal's approval label on them. Either metal (a problem around salt air) or plastic, but "APPROVED" not just a plastic jug.

Conductive plastic cans | plastic cans for flammables 30L and 60L

One company that makes both anti-static containers, and separate food-safe ones.

Its like garden hoses. Kids and dogs drink from all of them. But, the ones that don't say "food safe" often have that tangy PVC flavor in them. It would be nice to know what some manufacturer was willing to PUT IN WRITING, not just what someone said.

Re: New fuel spouts SUCK!!!!

I have had very good luck with spout and vent kits from EZ-POUR Universal Fuel & Water Jug Spout . Have "upgraded" a total of four 5-gallon plastic fuel cans (2 diesel and 2 gasoline) but can't comment on water containers since I don't use any.

Good quality metal cans are a dream to use. I have a pair of Justrite cans that pour easy and have a very easy to use pour / no pour handle. http://a.co/ja1FHVR

The Eagle brand ones are probably just as good.

Not a fan of metal cans on a boat. The galvanizing eventual wears and your fighting rust stains all the time. Love em for home use though.

Re: New fuel spouts SUCK!!!!

Want to stop the UV damage to portable plastic fuel containers? Whenever I purchase a new plastic fuel container for my boat I first wash it thoroughly with soap and water, allow to dry, then wipe it down with acetone, allow to dry again . I then paint it with a good quality, light colored latex paint. Touch up as needed. As long a the paint remains intact, so will the container.

I have some old plastic jugs with the good spouts. Probably have spent more on Sun brella covers than the damn things are worth. But, then again, with all the horror stories here I might just sew up another cover.

Re: New fuel spouts SUCK!!!!

Have any of you considered using a funnel and no spout?

Yes, that will work, but a vent helps quite a bit.
