The electrician will likely think of this: the selector switch(es) may not be wired correctly causing the neutral connection. Depending on your generator and/or inverter neutrals may need to be connected on board but obviously not on shore power. Same with ground-neutral bonding.

The solution may indeed be splitting a combined neutral bus but could be as easy as moving wires from one side of the selector switch to the other IF there are enough poles on the switch.
