Re: Storm damage log

Got the letter today and basically they'll give me what I paid for her.

I don't think I could get as well built a boat for the money, but I also don't think I have the time or energy to fix her up. Thoroughly upset by the whole thing.

Re: Storm damage log

Sorry to hear about this as well.

There are a couple of L30s in Maryland currently listed on Yachtworld. If the insurance company is willing to give you what you paid for the boat, take the money and offer it on another L30. I know the old owners of your boat and had been aboard a few times. It was one of the more nicely maintained L30s I've seen. You already owned one of the nicest L30s out there so you shouldn't really have to pay a dime more for another. You know exactly what these boats are worth and should be able to use that to your advantage to negotiate a good deal.

It is sad that the boat is totaled, but I would have trouble ever trusting the hull again after being stove hard enough to break the bulkheads free, at least not without a bunch of destructive inspection and testing. Then the hassle of sourcing a replacement mast and rigging...

Sure, the boat was like a family member but were you married to the design? I see a lot of good candidates in the local Craigslist that might be within your budget.

Let's go shopping, it'll be fun!

Re: Storm damage log

I just got a note from my friend the PO. He put almost a decade of love and work into that boat and even he would advise to start over.
My requests to mast places have also gone unanswered. I think that counts as a sign.
Bummed, but maybe ready to move on.

Suggestions of 30-34' boats under 15k welcomed.

Re: Storm damage log

Tomorrow, after/during another college visit, I will visit SC2 and say goodbye. Taking off anything not covered by the terms of insurance. I think we can close this thread, ain’t going to be any repairs going on.
