Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

I received my Defender sale items yesterday but the box was heavily damaged and the box tape broken at the ends. Luckily the items were still inside and not damaged. Usually they are very careful with packaging. I wonder if they are just shoving items from the influx of sale orders in boxes as fast as they can to get them out the door. They always warn customers in advance that shipping might be slower after this sale so I would have been perfectly happy to wait a little longer for my items if it meant everyone's orders would have been packaged carefully.

Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

@mbianka , this too happened to me but unrelated to WM. I had bought an order-we have daily deliveries here by UPS and Fed Ex-and UPS lazy ass driver had reported that road was not accessible. It WAS accessible-in fact two separate Fed Ex trucks came here that day (it's a biz address)-so then I received a teen tiny note in the mailbox (easily almost lost it was SO small) that said I had to pickup my order at UPS facility-which is over 40 mins drive away! OR call their number. So I dial the number and a human never gets on the line. I call 3 more times, same deal. Now livid I try to attempt a chat online wiht them. No go. Finally I just decided to contact Amazon again and just say f**k it, I will just let UPS return said item at which point I will re-order thru Amazon. Let THEM dick around with this. Oh ya and did I mention, UPS wanted to chg me $5 to attempt to deliver said box again....

Hope you get a better outcome with UPS than I did. :/

Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

I placed my order on the website on 3/22. Looking at my order today, 3/28, the status is "Valid Order." I still hope it ships this week...

I got one package on Tuesday and the rest today. Nothing broken.

But I have to say the Defender-branded "4-in-1" duffel bag I bought on clearance is pretty shitty quality. It was cheap enough that it is barely worth sending back but I doubt I will use it. Embarrassing for them to have their name on it.

Otherwise no complaints.

Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

Got contacted by Defender asking if I still want my order or a refund. Things could be complicated as I'm heading to the Florida Keys next week and order needs to arrive before I leave or after I return. I've had their shipping department screw up a delivery date before. Cost me a day of cruising while I awaited their delivery of parts. So I am reluctant to have delivery postponed again.

Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

Sorry for all the problems you guys are having. My Defender order arrived in PA today. Unfortunately, I'm in Wisconsin. My wife reports that there was no visible damage to the exterior of the box. I asked her to open and inspect it, and was told, "You just made me open that heavy box of bottom paint, I'm done for tonight!" The paint was a shipment from iBoats, since my brand of cheap (but still pretty good) paint isn't sold by Defender or WM. Inspection of the paint was more urgent because of the risk of fumes if damaged (as I learned in last year's shipment). My wife reported the Defender box sound like there might be something loose inside (probably the track cleat), but nothing particularly alarming. I'll open it when I get home Friday night.

All these shipping problems remind me how useful it is to have brick and mortar stores available. Let's hope that West Marine continues to be competitive on price, with enough profit to stick around. It would be a shame to lose them.

Just got a email this morning from Defender Customer Service:

"the replacement is shipping out today and will be to you on or before Monday the 2nd. You will be-mailed tracking this evening. "

So Kudos To Defender for the excellent Customer Service on this issue.

I called to follow up. Despite the website's statement that it was "In Stock" when I ordered, it seems that Defender is back ordered on the item that I purchased. The status of the item on the website is now "Call to confirm." Best guess is that it will ship at the end of April... Hmmmm....

Re: Annual Defender Spring Sale

My order arrived today. Three boxes, all in perfect shape. I placed my order last Saturday.

Hard to say if the problems a few are experiencing are Defender or UPS. In my experience, Defender does a great job of packing liquids and other hazardous products. For routine stuff that is not easily damaged, the boxes tend to be a bit light on packing material and things can move around in shipping. I have literally placed dozens of orders with them over the years and never had a problem with shipping damage.
