Not sure what that's relevant.

The difference between 1/2" and 13MM is 0.3MM

The difference between 5/16" and 8MM is 0.06MM

Also, it says right on the windlass "8MM or 5/16"" ... so it's clearly designed with 0.06MM of tolerance.

Re: Lofrans Cayman chain type?

The diameter is very close but it is the pitch of the chain that make the difference. if you look at the charts on the 8 mm size it is closer to 5/16" BBB chain in pitch then 5/16" HT chain. why not use the chain it is designed for? the 8 mm ISO766 chain or get a different Gypsie

5/16" IS what it's designed for. It's marked right on the gypsy that it's for 8MM or 5/16". Lofrans designed the gypsy to work with both of those chain dimensions, which is hardly surprising given how close they are.

The pitch..link length..is just a little different between BBB and G4 short link.
Your gypsy might handle both...or not.
