Re: Help Removing Rudder
Thanks very much for the replies. I am certain that I need to remove the rudder. I unhooked the steering and with the rudder turned in any direction, the most I get is about a 2" gap from the leading edge of the rudder to the end of the prop shaft. The prop is about 3" deep, so it is very close but will not go.
I am going to try and remove the shaft from the coupler first, then remove the coupler from the area and then see if I can slide the shaft back to get the prop off. I am replacing the cutless bearing and repacking/replacing the stuffing box, so I need to pull the shaft anyway. Maybe that will work.
As a side question, the shoe on the bottom does not look like it unbolts. Could it have bolts bedded in the paint? I did not thoughly inspect, but it seems like it is all once piece.
