Rudder Split

I'm just getting ready to launch for the 2019 summer when I noticed that the seam on the back edge of the rudder is separating 1/32-1/16?. From what I understand this type of thing happens if water gets inside and then freezes.

For this summer can I seal the crack with resin and then carry out a full repair (what ever that is) over the next winter?

The boat is only used May to end of Oct on inland lakes

Re: Rudder Split

Resin by itself won't seal for long maybe not even as long as it takes to get the boat in the water. If you really want a water proof seal wrap the edge with Fab/Mat tape and epoxy. Lightly scuff the gelcoat so the epoxy has some 'tooth' to bond to, wrap the Fab/Mat tape with at least an inch overlap and saturate with epoxy. You could fill any irregularities with fairing compound and sand smooth if you have the time or just launch and wait till you've time to finish the repair.

Re: Rudder Split

That is what I would do , plus I would resin in some glass tape . Make sure it's dry first .https://www.jamestowndistributors.co...ct.do?pid=1471
