Austin area boat shop?

Hi there,

New to the forum. I recently got a C22 for a steal and considering getting a bottom job. My only problem is 1) I don't know if I actually need one 2) not sure where to go to get an honest opinion and if needed, a reasonable bid. I'm new to the sailing community and the city. Any Austin area/lake Travis folks willing to help with advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

Best,

-Phil

A search of your area shows a large number of full service marinas in your area including Marshall Ford, Cypress Creek, Crosswater Yacht Club, and Lakeway Marina to list a few. Any of them that do fiberglass and paint work are likely able to help you. You can drop in and visit to talk to other sailors to get recommendations. People at crosswater Yacht Club, if they don't have their own fiberglass service there, can tell you who their members use.

To determine if your boat needs a paint job, is it faded? Does it have cracks or crazing in the finish? Try buffing it to see if it shines up.

A small boat that's been kept in a freshwater lake, particularly if it is a trailer sailer and has been stored out of the water when not being sailed, may not need a paint job.
