Re: bilge pump not working

my Rule automatic bilge pump stopped working. It had happened before. I decided to replace it.. and check the wiring... re route it when I did. I discovered the old pump worked.... so it's now a spare. This pumn deals with the water from the PSS dripless shaft seal... which is very very little water.

pay attention... someone's life depends on it

There should be zero water from a dripless. Itís in the name. 🙂

The only exception Iíve ever noticed is when first launched, but it stops that day. Not sure if something swells when wet or if itís just expansion and contraction in air.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

It drips once in a blue moon... but that small bilge catches some water that makes it way in from the cockpit. Very very little water. But the PSS does drip... just not when you are watching it!

Re: bilge pump not working

sorry guys, original post had typos. it doesn't work on Auto, (nothing comes on when I fill up bilge with water), but on Manual I will hear it running, but nothing pumps out.

I guess I've got some sort of blockage? My understanding is that the float switch is an internal sensor or some sort with this model. I will take it apart and see. Hopefully that works

Re: bilge pump not working

Of the three wires on the pump ,one is neg 'return' one is hot when on manual and the other is hot when onauto. Even a good pump needs this apart from blockage or closed thruhull.

Re: bilge pump not working

I had a what might have been a similar problem last spring: Pump ran but flow was almost non-existent. Something had taken up residence in the bilge line. Fed a bunch of bleach into the bilge with the pump trying to pump. Whatever it was went elsewhere. No problems since.

If your float switch doesn't activate the pump, but the pump runs in manual but doesn't drain, you could be dealing with two problems; line obstruction, and bad float switch/circuit (that you just hadn't noticed before).
