Question repowering diesel - NYC

Hi, I'm runnign a 30+ year old Volvo MC5C - enough to get me in and out of the marina.
Looking forward to repowering with a 16...25HP beta, of course trying on a budget...

Anyone who can recommend a yard doing this NJ/NYC area?

Fitting the new Betamarina for proper shaft position and alignment is very important. I am fortunate to know a master shipwright with a lot of experience in this.
There are some photos and narrative in my blog, over at

Have a look at this one and several blog entries after it. A lot of the prep. work is within the abilities of any average amateur, and I am certainly proof of that... !

You will love (Love!) how quiet that new Beta runs.

Not sure I understand the economics of the repower in this boat but I do understand the love of sailing this boat so if it means it makes getting the boat out there to go sailing I guess it makes since. I Raced a first 30ES back in the 90's and it is a great sailing boat, lots of fun and she always got us into trouble and got us out of it as well. the boat was very well built as Beneteau took a lot of pride in the First series. the boat I sailed had a Yanmar 2GM but I have worked on an MD5b so I know what you may be going through with an old one. Looks like the Beta 20 is a good choice for that boat if it will fit. My current First 30 has a 20 hp Yanmar and with 31' waterline it has plenty of extra power.
Being on the left coat I can't help on a yard but good luck with the repower It will make that boat even more fun to sail.
