Pettit barnacle buster vs rustoleum cold galvanizing compound

Actually the Pettit paint is called Barnacle Barrier.

A customer of mine was told that these two products are identical. Does anyone know if this information is factual?
Thanks

Re: Pettit barnacle buster vs rustoleum cold galvanizing compound

One year I couldn't get the Barnacle Buster intime to splash the boat and used the zinc primer paint. End of the year on haul out I found that the barnacles loved it.

copper compounds and other biocides would not be added to non-specialist coatings

Cold galvanizing is essentially zinc paint. I'm sure barnacle prevention takes more than just zinc. I think there is zinc in barnacle paint, so that it remains anodic and doesn't corrode what's is applied to, like regular anti-foulant might.

MSD sheet for Pettit Barnacle barrier lists no copper compounds. Compare the MSD sheets to see if and how they differ.

It lists cadmium and lead, interestingly. All sorts of chemical propellants and solvents too. I don't think the MSDS rules require disclosure of proprietary secrets, so if the biocidal property did not need to be addressed, for safety reasons, it may not be.

That list for Barnacle Barrier lists only solvents. I think you missed something, or that list is incomplete, since it lists no solids at all.

Good point. I can find no list of solid ingredients on the SDS although the TDS indicates 55% solids by weight.

I do see 5% zinc oxide listed in the SDS for the brush-on version of this product.

You are missing most of the information in that post like the part of the MSDS sheet that says the Pettit also contains lead, zinc and cadmium which is further down the page
