What kind of shaft seal is this?

Have our boat out of the water for the first time since we bought her last year, and we are about to splash her again so I thought I'd better check the shaft seal and see if it needs to be bled or anything.

It is a dripless seal, but it doesnt look anything like any of the dripless seals I have read about...what kind is it and is there anything I need to do to it?

Looks like a Volvo shaft seal.

I believe it is a Volvo, they seem to be commonly used on Jeanneau, the owners board had a discussion regarding servicing.

Thanks for that! I didnt see much like itcsearching for "dripless seal" but as soon I add "Volvo" to the search, there it is.

Does anyone know what type of grease it needs? I am sure it is not a Volvo proprietary grease, it is likely something fairly common repackaged by volvo.

Re: What kind of shaft seal is this?

Don't know what it is but it appears to be less than $10 for what amounts to a lifetime supply.
Lubricating Grease - Volvo Penta 828250 - volvopentastore.com
The instructions are surprising in that they recommend adding a cubic cm. of grease every 200 hours and REPLACEMENT at 500 hrs.

That being said, I know of many on Bene's & Jeanneaus more than 10 years old that have never been touched by human hands.
