Question SL Hyspeed 510 Windlass Repair?

I'm trying to disassemble a manual SL Hyspeed 510 Windlass and can't seem to get past what seems to be a set screw. The SL website only has an exploded view but no disassembly instructions... Anyone have some insight? I'm not sure its even worth buying replacement parts for either... If I can't justify it, any recommendations on a manual replacement?

Shawn

Re: SL Hyspeed 510 Windlass Repair?

Can't help specifically with the 510 but I have a SL Seawolf 500 electric and disassembly was pretty straight forward. One of the main steps that cut everything loose was removing the shaft going though the clutches, the gypsy, etc.

The first time I took it apart I had to drive the shaft out (carefully) as the old bearings were seriously corroded and rusted onto the shaft.

I've seen several questions about this windless on this and "the other forum" over the years so surely someone will pop up with specifics. Meanwhile if you decide to go with something new there's plenty of people out there that would jump on this so don't toss it.

As you know we have the same windlass I think

John MacMasters at SL Spares in Scotland - he has the monopoly on SL manual Parts

There is and old SN thread related but I’m sure you have googled it already

I took the windlass off Haleakula 4 years ago. Sent to Florida Rigging and supply. For $400 they completely broke it down, reconditioned it, redid the oil bath the gears bathe in, repainted and sent it back in brand new condition. Still works like a champ.

There are new manual ones...Bacons has one on display, but if they can repair yours....that’s your call

Hope this helps
