Compass Calibration Recommendation

Hi Gang,

I am looking to hire a pro that can help me calibrate the compass on my Columbia 39. I understand you might say why not do it yourself, well... I get lost backing out of my driveway.

So I really feel this would be something done better by someone who's experienced in this sort of adjustment.

Could anyone make a recommendation in the Long Beach (CA) area?

Fair winds!

Re: Compass Calibration Recommendation

Are you looking to have your compass swung? I would suggest you contact the marine pilot's office nearest your boat, but I wouldn't hold my breath that you'll get any help before this pandemic is long gone.
Not exactly an essential service on a pleasure craft.

You're right about that Capta, I was just thinking about locating someone that could take care of it after the zombie apocalypse is past.

I could try contacting them to see if they have any suggestions.

thanks!

Nearest appears to be Costa Mesa or Santa Ana, I used the guy in Laguna Niguel a couple decades ago and thought he'd retired, call around.

Re: Compass Calibration Recommendation

Boatersbook used to be like a Yellow Pages for local boating resources printed annually, print versions still available for free at marina offices, West Marine, brokers offices and such. Also includes info pages for all the California harbors, signal flags, VHF frequencies etc. I usually keep a recent copy aboard as reference. Used to be much bigger but as the boatbuilding industry declined here so did the suppliers and allied services.
