Just curious, are you waiting for it to fail or you know it has failed?
Keep us posted on the replacement work - I may soon be facing the same pleasure....

Re: The Jabsco Macerator... a ticking bomb of nastyness

FWIW, after replacing a Jabsco macerator twice over the years in my sailboat, I switched to Shurflo with the understanding that it has a longer run-dry time. That was several years ago. So far, so good.

I also use a Jabsco macerator in my powerboat to pump out the fish boxes and have had to replace it about every 5 years when it started blowing fuses or refused to run. I attribute that to the run-dry issue, as the pump has to self-prime for several seconds before pulling water through. I had been stuck with Jabsco replacements because I could not remove the hoses from the pump bell and therefore had a compatibility issue with replacing just the motor/pump and attaching it to the original 1990 bell.

You can understand why I am not a fan of Jabsco macerators.

Funny to see such an old post of mine. The Jabsco mascerator I referenced did eventually go. I too would have described it as whining, but it was also having difficulty priming itself. At first, it wasn't bad enough that I was convinced it was taking too long to prime. Eventually, it was obvious.

I swapped it out with a Shurflo. The first time I hit the switch, prime was instantaneous and pumping was strong.

It's a crappy job. Mine, as I mentioned above, is buried deep too.

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
