In their defence Simon LeBon of the group and his maxi "Drum" competed in a Fastnet (capsized & almost killed) and a Whitbread.

Re: The Punk Rock Thread

Duran Duran is NOT punk.

How about:

Let's lynch the landlord - Dead Kennedys - for those renting their house while cruising.
I am a poseur - Xray Specs - for those armchair experts.
The once over twice - X - for those who have dealt with "marine professionals".
Blister in the sun - Violent Femmes - for those without adequate canvas.
Teenage Riot - Sonic Youth - for those who have done home schooling while cruising.
Beat on the brat - Ramones - how the home schooling gets accomplished.
Bye bye baby - Social Distortion - for those who don't lift their dinghy at night.
Friggin in the Riggin' - Sex Pistols
Bikini Red - Screaming Blue Messiah
Bums I used to know - The Reducers - for anyone who escaped Key West/Luperon/Rio Dulce, ect.
Packed like sardines in a crushed tin box - Radiohead - for those "young punks"
Deeper Water - Public Image LTD - where the monos anchor.
Broken Face - Pixies - for those just learning to jibe.
Pissing in a River - Patti Smith.
Personality Crisis - New York Dolls - for those newly retired and just starting cruising.
Sink my Boats - Ian Dury
Should I stay or should I go - Clash - the every day weather question.
Somethings gone wrong again - Buzzcocks - goes with owning a boat.
Up the beach - Jane's Addiction - for those not expecting that wind shift.

As you can tell, this thread hits one of my favorite music genres.

Re: The Punk Rock Thread

I think about the Sex Pistols (or Iggy Pop and the Ramones) out outside of the main stream there were.. and kind of scary, but now they seem to be a golden nugget of history.

One of the odd things about punk is, like a so many things, only the main stream is talked about... What I liked about punk was how it was so local. In Toledo I would go to punk clubs in the 80's. I was in my 30's surrounded by teenagers, with other teenagers on stage.. (I was the old guy in the club) they would just be rocking out. In many ways those bands.. that audience also had an importance.

that said, I defer to colemj.. that is a pretty good list and a great cross section of bands.

Not exactly Punk, but certainly the spirit
