Escape Cha Cha Sailboat

Hello all. I picked up an Escape Cha Cha sailboat to sail Hanalei Bay in the Summer time at a vacation home in Kauai. I am desperate to find a rudder and tiller assembly for this cool little toy.

Any direction or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We have an Escape Rhumba and I found that the rudder assembly/rudder was the same as that on the Laser. I believe that may be the same for the Cha Cha.

Also try adhuntr.com its a craiglist search engine... someone might have one and be able to ship it to you.

Re: Escape Cha Cha Sailboat

Thanks for the suggestion. However the Cha Cha had/has a rather unique rudder/tiller assembly that was forward of mid-ships just behind the mast. The rudder post protruded up through the hull and the tiller attached to the post so the pilot had the tiller and steered the boat looking forward. Pretty unusual, and therefore a bit harder to match up with other conventional boats.

This pic show a Cha Cha rig with tiller and rudder.

Miata won't find this one quite as interesting. :-)

That's gonna be a hard one to find. I had an Escape Solsa and managed to find a sail for it on the 'bay after much searching.

Cute little toy but did a miserable job keeping the wet stuff on the outside though. For some reason the top of the centerboard trunk was about 6" lower than the gunnels (a lot on this very small boat) so it functioned like, well, you would think a hole in the bottom of the boat would function.

Good luck and have fun.

edit: how are your fiberglass layup skills?
