Re: Who are you?

In order to qualify for #4, do I need to show you my "large distance"?

Re: Who are you?

I grew up being a #1 and a #7.

Currently I am a #8: A boat owner who is currently restoring/refitting their boat.

Yep, pizza here tonight.

Boat pizza equals Pita, spaghetti sauce (canned), diced onion and garlic, extra old cheddar cheese, salami, 5 minutes on the BBQ.

If we are only a day or two without refrigeration, substitute salami with kolbasa (salmi, a week wo refrigeration easy, kolbasa, max 48 hours).

Re: Who are you?

An entire different group out here. Those that can make fresh Pizza dough, patiently watch it rise, while checking the amp hour meter all afternoon, cook said pizza on the bbq and wash it all down with cold beer on a rainy day.

Re: Who are you?

I used to be a 6 then last year I bought a boat. Now I guess I'm a 3 cruising between Florida and Maine.

you know that doesn't sound half bad, though I would prefer pepperoni to salami.

Re: Who are you?

I'm stil trying to figure this out... "It seems there are four groups of sailors." Yet the OP list seven groups. I am slow sometimes...

Re: Who are you?

I'm curious about commuter cruisers. There's a fairly large group of folks from US northeast or midatlantic who live 1/2 the year on the boat during the winter cruising the Caribbean and 1/2 the year cruising the east US coast. Many have an apartment, condo or small house. They come home for ~2 weeks for Xmas and use it on and off during the summer.
? Are they live aboards? They are on the boat >3/4 of the time.
? Are they "long distance " sailors. The semi annual passage is >1500m and they commonly put 7-10k on the boat per year.
? Are they commuter cruisers. They commonly vary year to year. Sometimes the boat sits in Grenada or Trinidad for a winter of travel or work or skiing. Sometimes it's off to the Med or South Pacific.

Think commuter cruisers are fairly common and a diverse group. East coast to fla or Bahamas or east Carribean. San Juans to Mexico. West coast to off to see South Pacific.

Re: Who are you?

There are also boat owners who park the boat in a slip in May and take it out in October never once going out and sometimes not even coming down to the marina to check on it.
