Bent winch

Is it my imagination or is this winch bent?

that's your imagination! on some selftailers that lower jaw adjusts to the size of the line.

Looks more like the upper jaw is adjusting to the size of the line.

That makes sense now. The upper jaw floats a little to grab the line.

The lesson from the Icarus story is not about human failing.
