Chasing Bubbles

I did a search for this documentary " Chasing Bubbles" here - and I do not see this ever being posted. IMHO this is absolutely a top sailing film and heartbreaking, hilarious and inspiring - and tons of fun. I can't help feel like I know this guy, or should know him or maybe I just wish I did.

And he - Alex Rust - has truly inspired me. That said, I'd just like to share and I just hope that any discussion is not political because that is just bs and out of respect for the guy, it's about life and sailing and love and other great stuff.

Take a look --

About an hour in. Excellent video and thanks for posting. I love the quote. "He is the smartest idiot I have ever meant."

Another quote. "Alex is a fine example of the human spirit."

Re: Chasing Bubbles

I watched it. The guy was a decent human being and I hold nothing against him, but for some reason this video just didn't do anything for me.

I agree. I had several issues with it that I just couldn't get beyond.

Thanks. I genuinely wondered if there was something wrong with me because I didn't like it.

Such as?

I don't agree with all the guys choices but I don't usually agree with anyone's choices most of the time.

I have found my self watching video blogs and observing actions that would elicit a strong response if I was the skipper. Those actions have left a lingering sense of dislike for that blog even though generally I am digging the videos topics. I have since realized that those strong reactions are my fears not theirs. I have since found that I more empathize from their perspective then my own. There is no doubt that Alex was not what I would call the safest person.

Ajax we all have our own taste. Hopefully you can see his zest for life but nothing wrong if you don't dig the video.

I often find that I like to see folks that go against the flow of what is expected. I tend to be willing to over look some personality traits because I admire the unique path and choices one makes.

You can't beat his pirate deterrent method. You may have missed that if you don't watch the credits. A big harry naked guy with a flare gun on a hunter 27. Hardly worth the effort.

Re: Chasing Bubbles

I thought it was a very good film. Part of the reason I liked it is I don't think they gilded the lily in regards to the protagonist's character. I found the post voyage sentiments that Alex expressed to be particularly poignant.
