Re: Documentation renewal - beware

This happens with a lot of government registrations. I am registered with several government sites concerning bids and I always get multiple e-mails from companies offering to "help" me get registered for a fee. I always took at the address it came from and if it doesn't come from a .gov site I just delete them.

Let me guess...their help is absolutely no help at all, correct? The only help going on is them helping themselves to your money.

Call their customer service. They are very good at what they do and know more than all of us on the internet forum.

Try $26. Better yet, use a credit card with the USCG payment agent (via USCG website) and save the postage. I did that and had my renewal certificate received via snail mail within 2 weeks.

Yes, it is $26 and going thru their website is the easiest, quickest way to go. Just stay away from these slimeball agents who charge you $50 for 2 minutes work. Who do they think they are...lawyers?

What is involved in renewing documentation that has lapsed for several years?
Hi Ajax- if you're less than 30 days late with the renewal it's $5 extra and you can do it on the pay.gov site. If it's more than 30 days you'll have to "reinstate", which means filling out a CG-1258 and paying $84 in filing fees, if it was previously documented in your name. If it was previously documented in someone else's name, $84 plus $8/page for each page of bill of sale showing transfer. If it was taken out of documentation, $133 plus $8/page to re-apply for initial documentation.

Full disclosure - I run yachtdocsonline.com out of Annapolis and used to have a Tartan 10.

Re: Documentation renewal - beware

This boat has never been documented in my name. It's been out of documentation for years, and I'll need to re-activate it.
I've read the procedure on the links above and I'll need to provide a complete custody chain, so I'm working on that.
