How noisy are we talking about? Weed whacker noisy?

Thanks for all the replies. The used market continues to be frustrating. Very little available in my size range and what is seems to sell very fast (although that doesn't seem to make the ad disappear equally as fast). Why do people leave their ad up long after the item has sold?

I'm leaning toward a Tohatsu 3.5, I really don't need an alternator and it's the cheapest option for a new motor.

It does have a "composite" prop. Not sure if that should be a concern. Anyone have any experience with them?

As mentioned above we've had the Nissan version for 13 years with no issues whatsoever. Do get a cover for the head, the plastic cowling (of the Nissan, anyway) quickly succumbs to UV. No issue with the prop either, even after hitting the odd stick.

More like a lawn mower- when it's out of the water. My wife won't let me run it in the driveway (which you can do, because it's air cooled).

It's significantly queiter in the water, because the exhaust noise is muffled by the water.

The engine has a centrifical clutch (like a ski do) which is a bit funny because the prop needs to be spinning when you need to rev it up- like when you're starting it.
