Amazing! He did not ask for a government handout or blame conservatives for his troubles. Hollywood should certainly make a movie of his story to show those who constantly complain about how they have been short changed by life why they have failed.. I wonder if he is still alive?

A 2002 story. Apparently he did it again some years later.

Per a related article linked below that one, he was given a replacement boat after someone heard of his ordeal, complete with navigation equipment. And the next year, got lost because apparently he didn't know enough of how to use it, and was rescued again. I decided after reading the two articles, to spare myself time spent googling him to see how many times in the years since that he might have done it again.
