Rimas is alive and made it to guam

The world champion drifter made it to Guam after 4 1/2 months at sea. He 'skilfully' avoided all the Pacific crunchy bits that have killed so many boats and crew then deployed his usual call to the coastguard to come out and tow him in.

His last known position had him just a 7 miles upwind of the texas reef in Fiji.

He has already displayed his grifting skills in Guam getting a local to finance a trip to a supermarket.

and he never had to hit the big Red button. Er maybe because he did not have an EPIRB? SHould be an interesting tale.

Ha ha... I knew it. The benefits of the 'go slow' rule. And they want me to buy a fast cruiser...

Re: Rimas is alive and made it to guam

I watched his interview. He say that after his delorme crapped out near Fiji, he made a main sail out of a sheet and sailed the 2800 miles to Guam. Seems implausible, but there he is... Rimas says the Coast Guard heard his call, flew a chopper out to pluck him off, but he refused and so they towed him in.

Somebody on Sailing Anarchy traced his path and calculated that he averaged 1.5 knots during his 137 days at sea.

OK, this guy has more lives than a cat. Don't care if its a CAT5 hurricane my bets on him. OK - lousy sailor sure, but somehow he still manages to get home. OK he's dragged in, but come on... really?
