Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

This is my favorite fog photo of 2017. Not because the fog is as thick as it gets on our coast, but as the image gives a sense of sailing in fog.

You sail within a small circle of visibility, that seems to follow you, surrounded by dense fog just beyond.

He's at least a half mile away. Keeping out of his way shouldn't be a problem.

Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

Crossing Lake Superior, June 2017.

No pictures from the bad fog.... there was nothing to see. Coming out of Rock Harbor the fog was variable, but at one point I couldn't barely see the bow pulpit (on a 25ft boat)

Tied to the wall at Grand Marais, waiting for the fog to lift enough that we could see the breakwater, and make a run for the southern shore.
I1 Foggy departure morning

These photos were shot during the crossing from Grand Marais to the Apostle Islands.
A long shot as the fog started to break up.
I1 East Wind fog

Then the auto pilots tried to crash us together. 40nm from anything else, but they still tried.
We were watching of course, trying to not take the helm from the auto pilots, but had to fix half a boat length worth of distance.
I1 Manual intervention

It was an amazing trip.
But cold water and warm air give very regular results!

Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

It's amazing how balanced the colours are in the fog. The light is so diffused that it renders everything shadowless. A photographers dream for sure.

I love that jet stream fog shot a few posts above. Not sure if anyone would beleive it without a picture.
