Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

That's not fog! lol
We spent 5 days where we couldn't see the bow of an 80' boat from a midships pilothouse between Shelburne, Nova Scotia and the Ten Thousand Islands area. The lockmasters' commands were just disembodied words filtering down from on high. Imagine throwing a line when you can see maybe half way up the lock wall.
Growing up in the Bay Area, there were days you had to dismount and push your motorcycle because you couldn't see the next white line on the road.

Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

That sounds awesome! But this is about as foggy as it gets around here. I bet it was pretty quiet.

Indeed it is. It's the cove/anchorage on the south end of the spit. I stayed there overnight and woke up to this view. I am heading out to the lake in this picture.

Fog is where there is not even a sign of the sun and you can't tell the direction of the oncoming freighter and you've still got most of the gill net out. No radar or GPS yet but the tide has changed .

Re: My two 2017 Fog Pictures

These pics were taken this summer on the Tay Canal in Eastern Ontario. One pic is standing on the gate looking down. The tiny cruising sailboat and orange tent on the right are me.

The other pic is standing on the lock gate looking up the canal.

The Tay Canal is kind of neat. Unlike the Rideau Canal which was built as a military resupply route, or the Trent Severn Canal, which was built for use by pleasure craft, the Tay was built for industrial purposes in an effort to move cargo.

My pictures were taken on two different days. I loved watching the sails in the distance with the sun in the foreground. They looked like shark fins on occasion. It was pretty foggy on the other day, but I could still see my bow. Doesn't make for a very interesting photo though.
