Re: Outboard on or off Dinghy While Towing?
I have an AVON Rover RIB 315 that was purchased in 2008. The bare RIB weighs 154#, the Honda 9.9 weighs about 100#, a full gas tank weights about 30#, and the stowed anchors and gear weigh about 20#, so the total weight is about 300#. It isn't fancy and has a single thwart seat and bow locker--no console with steering wheel!
They sure have changed over the years haven't they! The new Avons are quite opulent compared to the utility of their base models of even a decade ago and the HP requirements sure have skyrocketed. Dinghy when I was a lad was powered by 0.5 to 4 HP so it was a bit of a shocker to see their smallest dinghy/tender on their current site spec'd as requiring exactly 40 HP (min/max) and only available with a two seat console while the optional console in 2008 looked more like a jet ski saddle with a steering wheel. Then again they merged or were bought out by Zodiac so they probably got rid of the overlap and have other divisions making the more utilitarian models now such as the Zodiac Cadet Ribs which appear to be closer to the Rovers of yesteryear.
The only constant is change as they say.
