Seriously though, there are plenty of fair sized sailboats in the bay, so presumably they managed to cross the bar at some point. But the bar into Tomales Bay is one of the most dangerous on the west coast. Several people die every year on it, usually when they are surprised by breaking waves. You need to time the entrance and exit very carefully, so as to avoid conditions where the waves break.
You got me, I'll be packing my very own personal supply of Diphenhydramine HCl,
25 mg, (Wal-Mart brand allergy relief).

Leaving out of Tampa but that might change.

I'm not worried, the skipper and crew do this route all the time, I'm just going along to pitch in my fair share of the work and for the experience.

Not really much there. Might be a few good restaurants but I never found them. Even though Pt Reyes is a little more than an hour from the big cities of Nor Cal it feels pretty far out there, like a sleepy hippy commune in remote Northern California.

Pt Reyes Blue Cheese is awesome if you are a blue cheese fan. Cowboy Creamery is good also. There is some good local oysters but can't make any suggestions on where to eat them, other than the Marshall Store. Every time I have been in the area I have stopped at the Marshall Store. I think eating food from there off the back of a boat you sailed to that location could be the highlight of a sail in Northern California.

Where do you plan on coming ashore and how will you get around once there?
