Production foiling mono

Beneteau has put out a Figaro 3. Aimed at the solo sport boat market. Seems very well designed and effective. Certainly a vision of things to come.

Re: Production foiling mono

Great if you can get the conditions it needs to foil - like the transpac. Not so great if the wind isn't steady or strong enough to keep you going. How do they keep these boats from crash diving - the way foiling Moths and Wazps may do- when they suddenly lose speed and the foils stop lifting?

Re: Production foiling mono

The foiling monos like the Figaro 3 do not lift completely out of the water. the lift is used to lighten the boat and some of the lift is used to like ballast to counter the rig forces

Re: Production foiling mono

Here is the official clip on the Figaro 3 and it looks like quite a bit of fun. The concept as Overboard mentioned was to use foils to eliminate the large water ballast tanks lightening the boat while still providing stability while reaching. Looks like they did a pretty good job of it.
