Cruise Air portable air conditioner not too cool

Anyone have experience with a portable Cruise Air 5000 marine air conditioner?

The unit we have is sending out cool air but I've been told it should freeze us out if we run it full blast. Anything I can check or adjust?

Re: Cruise Air portable air conditioner not too cool

5000 BTUs is not a lot, but should be okay in a small space. Ambient temperature makes a huge difference, along with relative humidity and direct sunlight. I have to draw all shades in the height of the summer to get decent cooling and I have a total of 42000 BTUs.

How does the portable unit exhaust itís own waste air? I assume these are air cooled, not raw water cooled.

yes, air cooled. most of the unit sits above the deck in the forward hatch and discharges hot air out the top. we're using it in a 32 footer.

Can you close cabin doors and limit the space itís cooling?

You might also buy an inexpensive digital thermometer gun ($10-$20 on Amazon) and check the actual temp of the cooling air at the unit. Youíll have to look up what itís supoosed to be, but perhaps itís underperforming. Is it new or used?

The digital thermometer guns come in handy. Worth getting one and finding out.
