One of the biggest challenges of Aldi Novel Adilang's job was supposed to be boredom, as the sole caretaker of a wooden fishing hut miles out at sea. Instead, he was forced to survive more than a month on the ocean after his hut lost its mooring and drifted from Indonesia to waters around Guam...

Well, I guess if one has to go adrift at sea, doing so on a fish trap with a hut on top isn't the worst way to do it!
jephotog and Slayer like this.

I never heard of filtering salt water with clothes.

Not supposed to work.

The lesson from the Icarus story is not about human failing.
It is a lesson about the limitations of wax as an adhesive.
If you have an engineering problem solve it.

It won't change the salt intake but may allow you to feel better about the flavour. See the Bombard Expedition where he intakes salt water on a drift across the Atlantic. (died yrs later from kidney failure.
