Re: Boats and the Condos View

We've had flooding from hurricanes along the beach here. Houses are now being built FEMA-compliant, essentially putting them on stilts or posts 10' in the air. (Some have actually taken their existing house and jacked it up. Spit-level houses look really weird this way.) Space underneath is where the stairs & cars go: nothing else. Needless to say, this blocks the view for adjoining houses, so everything is tending to go up. Hellosailor's legged house sounds like it could be left at ground level for bringing in the groceries and then hoisted up to enjoy the view. Put on some solar panels & batteries to drive the motors & things, and it won't matter when they shut off the electricity.

Hey, It's Florida!
One day in the not too distant future there won't be any marinas, because waterfront property is just too valuable. If you can't afford a house/condo with a dock, you won't have anyplace to keep a boat! Anchoring will be illegal everywhere and mooring fields will be 'out of sight/out of mind' far from convenient.
The Keys will be one huge theme park with dorms for the workers and no private residences.
You gotta love progress!

"Any idiot can make a boat go; it takes a sailor to stop one." Spike Africa aboard the schooner Wanderer in Sausalito, Ca. 1964.

My point was that it appears likely all of Florida to be underwater but I understand the sentiment being conveyed.

Cheers
