New channel markers in Canada

Attention fellow Canadian boaters: I just heard that Transport Canada is planning on changing the channel markers (buoys) this season.

The new markers have been designed to blend in with the environment so as to not disrupt wildlife.

The new markers will retain the old shapes i.e. square (flat) for portside markers and triangular tops for starboard markers.

The lighting patterns have not changed at this time, but plans are in place to modify the flash patterns so that they do not increase light pollution.

Keep your eyes on your chartplotters!

It's actually an end-run by the night-vision binocular business association lobby in Ottawa to boost sales. Despite maintaining the "can" and "nun" shapes, the camouflaged buoys will be difficult to find, even in daylight. The night-vision binoc people are are adding an app that will enable you to see them despite the camouflage. Too bad the Defender sale is over -- you'll have to pay full price!

Let's noy give those twits in Ottawa any ideas or we'll end up paying SNC or Davies a few billion to paint them.

The hysterical laughter you hear as you drive a way in your"new" boat ..... is the seller.
