Topside Name Lettering

I'm getting ready to re-name (yeah, I know, but the current name will never do...) my 17' 2004 Suncat , and given that the transom is a small, crowded affair, I am planning on placing the new monicker on the side. Question--port, starboard or both?

I don't believe in gods, but that is no good reason to tempt their wrath. The boat will be renamed with all proper ceremony and beverages.

Fun, you got one! Those look like such a blast.

I put my boat name on both sides, near the stern.

I got my vinyl from: Lettering on the Cheap
I have no affiliation with them, but I've placed a couple orders and have been satisfied. Whatever they use for UV protection seems to work; my bright red letters haven't faded at all.

Re: Topside Name Lettering

I'd check with your local registration authority. There may actually be rules governing the size, font, and placement. This is true if one wants to document a vessel with the USCG.
I must say, I'm not at all a fan of fancy fonts that make reading the name difficult to read, even when passing in the dingy. I don't understand how folks would think that an intelligent move, especially in a time of distress when someone may be searching for the boat. Duh!

Both sides for sure. Easy to do yourself.

Tricks are to make a hinge with masking tape and to spray the hull with slightly soapy water, to allow for some working time. Then be patient.

I hope rules are international. In Turkey the letters should be at least 15 cm (6 in.) high, easily readable font, the color should be clearly visible on the color of the boat. Size of Lettering on the sides is not mentioned, they can be much smaller.

Keeping in mind this is a 17’ boat. It seems unlikely it will be registered with the Coast Guard or will be doing much international travel. Maybe the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods.

But come on, you’re keeping us all in suspense!!!!

What was the old name that was so inappropriate, and what’s the new name?

I thought I made it quite clear in my first sentence "I'd check with your local registration authority. There may actually be rules governing the size, font, and placement" that I was aware his 17' boat would likely need your local registration authority.
I just threw in the CG stuff because some ask, now and then.
