Recent experiences around Freeport?

Hey everyone, we made the 28hr nonstop drive back to Canada from Orlando for Christmas so bear with me if I'm incoherent lol.

My parents have spoke with a travel agent and have a chance to book at a resort that is open in the freeport area. They would like us to sail up and visit them with our daughter while they are there.

The agent can confirm the resort and airport are working fine. However I'm curious of anyone who has sailed in that area since Dorian. Anchorages that are recommended and hopefully not too foul with debris? Routes to and from that may be best currently? Any insight would be appreciated!

PS Odds are we are still jumping from Miami to Alice town. They wouldn't be at freeport until a week or two after we've checked into the country.

You get your best information the closer you get.

I think it will be great to explore and see how things are going.... and helping the local community with your tourism dollars.

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go,
And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

Not too many well protected anchorages on that shore. Freeport does not allow pleasurecraft in that harbour but for exceptional circumstances.

1. Best would be just inside the Grand Lucayan Waterway (canal that crosses the island) east of Freeport. This is a few miles of canal we have stayed in often and is very well protected.

2. There is an abandoned small canal just a few miles east of West end (also on south shore) that is well protected.

Which resort is the family aiming for ? We know several of them reasonably well

The hysterical laughter you hear as you drive a way in your"new" boat ..... is the seller.

Thanks Poker that's good info to have. After finding very little about the state of the area (when arriving by boat) I've convinced them to wait for our 3mo to be up in the Bahamas and instead to meet us in florida. There were just too many logistical unknowns and many needles to thread to meet them on time. Once we are in the area we plan to tour all the Bahamas and will do the north end once there and can get real time info on the conditions. If we hear its just not a good idea by boat we will just spend more time on the other islands instead. We head south and launch for our trips continuation on new years. Can't wait!
