AIS-MMSI registration...US vs. UK?

Well, it appears that I may be able to save a few bucks by registering for a UK radio station license in order to get a new MMSI number issued ...even though my boat is registered in Delaware. Have any of you done this? Cheers.

MMSI is reasonably important to have correct.

If you are in danger and set your EPIRB off its associated to your MMSI.

In and area of poor SSR the default of search control lapses to the country originating the MMSI.

In other words, when you're drowning in Deleware Bay do you want the USCG to send a helicopter, or the British?

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go,
And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

I'm in Australia, so either probably wouldn't help. I need to buy an AIS transponder to get into Indonesia, hence the need for a new MMSI number. I'm sailing on just an AIS receiver at the moment. My current MMSI (epirb) is French.....It's a long story. I'm just trying to get into Indo as cheaply as possible.
