Schaefer 70-17 camcleat with 77-18 fairlead

Anybody know how these go together? You would THINK that an accessory intended for a product would simply fit. Do I remove the back plate from the camcleat and replace it with the fairlead? The bosses in the fairlead will not fit in the cleat. Do I cut them off? This is ridiculous.

(Fairlead) Mounts directly to our 70-17 Cam Cleat. Will require (2) #10 RH fasteners.

So it looks like this is just a fairlead, that does not work with your cam cleat: Schaefer Marine Wire Fairlead f/70-17 with Base 77-18 Color: Black,

the 70-17 is a plain cam cleat with no fairlead the 77-18 is a replacement base with a wire fairlead you have to switch the bases. the 77-07 is mounted on top of the cam cleat and you should use one or the other not both

Seems so, per the packaging. Go back on Schaefer and have "Customer Service" explain. Good luck.

Re: Schaefer 70-17 camcleat with 77-18 fairlead

you remove the existing bottom plate from the cam cleat and replace it with the new bottom plate that has the wire fairlead.
