sailing on lake Erie

Hi I am new to the site but I have been reading the posts for quite some time. I am looking for some recomendations for a swing keel boat that would be able to handle overnight trips on lake Erie or Ontario. I have looked at Mcgregors (25) and catalina 22...but I am open to other sugestions and advice. My brother-in-law is a harbor master and he says that McGregors are not the way to go but the water ballast thing seems like a good idea since I would be trailering the boat. Let me know what you think. One thing I have learned on this site is that people are not shy about their opinions !! Thank you in advance.

An excellent trailer able boat is the S2 7.9. It will handle the lakes a lot better than the two you mentioned and sails very well. There are quite a few available and prices vary a lot depending on condition. My advice is what ever boat you buy look for one that has been well looked after. It will cost more up front but will be worth it.

S2's do have a reputation for being relatively well built and generally good sailers.

I have heard that the S2 is very good also. Do you think I would be able to pick up a good one for less that $10,000? I would get a fixed keel boat but i am a long way from water and have to keep the boat at my house. Thank you for the advice.
