Hynter 25 Cherubini 1978 Help Pls

I know these boats are old and information may be scarce. I am acquiring a 1978 Hunter 25 Cherubini. I would appreciate any collateral information like an owners manual, or whatever is out there. The main thing I need to find out right now is what was the HP rating for that boat back then. I have a 15HP outboard and want to know if it would be to biog to use on that boat. Thanks.

To begin with the Hunter 25 was primarily a Bob Seidelmann design. I believe that Cherubini did the later redesign of the interior and deck plan that occurred somewhere around 1979.

Here is a link to the Hunter 25 owners manual. https://hunter.sailboatowners.com/dl...id=13&model=25 with this being more specific to the later model Hunter 25. https://sbo.sailboatowners.com/downl...5_31960189.pdf

I did not see a recommendation for the outboard size, but 15 hp sounds like it is too large. I would have expected a 10 hp or smaller engine.

Rule of thumb is two hp per 1,000 lbs. displacement. A 15 is twice what is optimal and the transom might not support the extra weight.

I have a 9.9hp on my 1981 Hunter 25. Previously had a 6. Both work well for getting in and out of the slip. I feel a 15 would be a little too much "junk in the trunk." Definitely get a long shaft.

Had a 2.2 on my Capri 25 (but then I'm a bit over the top.

The Hunter 25, even though a robustly built "big" 25, would be OK with a 6hp. I know the 15HP is roughly the same weight as the 9.9 (4 strokes), but still, go with as small as can get you home in a reasonable blow. 6-8hp should be ideal for that boat.
