Greetings from (currently cold) upstate NY

Hello,
I am a photography teacher in Glens Falls NY. I've been sailing since I was about 16 years old. We have had a Sunfish, Hobie cats, a javelin and for a long time we sailed a Challenger 24. The Challenger was a great boat for where we sail on Lake George; a beautiful little lake, only 32 miles long but with many islands and undeveloped shoreline. When my oldest started college 12 years ago the university didn't seem to understand that boat money and mooring fees should be exempt from the financial aid forms, needless to say they won the argument. So after 12 years of not sailing (3 kids, 3 colleges!) we have just purchased an '83 Hunter 31, I've always wanted standing headroom! We plan to sail her (Northern Lites) on Lake George for the next four years and then after retirement take a trip down the coast and over to the Bahamas. Look forward to getting to know folks.
Peter

Thank you for the welcome message Mike. We just purchased the Hunter, so I don't have any photos of her in the water but here are a couple of pictures we took for the insurance company.

I have ridden up to Americade numerous times, lots of fun. What do you ride? I have a Harley Dyna, but recently have been riding two triumphs more, a 2001 sprint and a 2003 Daytona 955i

Greetings Peter from downstate NY.
If/when you come down the Hudson on your way to points south stop in at Nyack Boat Club (transient moorings $25/night).
I am not seeing any direct canal link from Lake George to the Champlain Canal but it looks like you should be able to put in your boat, "Northern Lites", near Glens Falls, hence to Albany and the ocean.
In the meantime enjoy the nice winters and long Lake George.

Thank you for the Greetings!
You are correct, there is no outlet from Lake George to the Hudson River. I put our previous boat in the Hudson in Schuylerville (about 40 miles south of Lake George,) and sailed (and motored) down to the statue of liberty. It was a great trip, but we had to turn around and head back north. Next time I'm hoping to keep going south. Thanks for the information about the Nyack Boat Club, I will definitely put it on my list of places to stop.

That was many moons ago... The first time it was on my '95 Kawasaki GPz1100;

Second time was on my '02 Honda ST1100;

I currently ride an '05 Honda VTX1300s;

When my friends first saw this bike they said that it was totally wrong for me. This thing is loud and obnoxious, but in Florida (where I keep and ride it) the loud pipes are necessary. I call it my "Hardly."

Re: Greetings from (currently cold) upstate NY

Thank you for the welcome! Yes they sail ice boats on Lake George still, ice wasn't great last year but most years they do. I'm not one to sail on the ice, too damn cold! Your memory is correct, the winter is bitter, sometimes 20-30 degrees below zero. I hope to be spending my winters on the boat in the south in a few more years. I hope you moved someplace nice and warm
